David Sensei's thoughts.

HI everyone! Sorry I have not posted much on this blog recently. I have been very busy and by kids have recently gone to bed very late so bother me very much if I try to use the computer.  Anyway this is what I think about doctors and hospitals in Japan.

First of all I feel that most doctors in Japan don't do their job because they love to help people. I think a lot of them do it for the money and the social statis. Many doctors were forced to be doctors because their parents told them to do it.  I'm not sure which doctors do it for the love of helping people of for the love of money but they do all work and study very hard so I respect them for that.
I think Japanese people rely on doctors too much. especially the elderly.  Just a small sore throat or feeling tired many people go to the doctors to get an opion and medicine.  Most the time the doctor says you have stress and you should take this medicine.   Blaming stress is too often an excuse doctors use.  I think most of the time when doctors say you have stress, it means they don't know whats wrong. In Australia most doctors and hospitals are free but we only visit for very serious problems.  I think old Japanese people use the hospitals as a place to talk to their friends.
Another thing in Japan that makes me angry is that many people use the ambulance system too much. I have heard that people who catch a cold, have stress or just feel lonely call an ambulance an go to hospital.  What a waste! Someone who really needed the ambulance may be dieing somewhere.   Those people should have to pay a lot of money to use it.     In Australia ambulances are very expensive so we only use them in emergencies.
Another bad thing about Japan is that hospitals and clinics are only open on weekdays.  What happens if your child becomes very sick on a Friday night? They have to wait until Monday or spend a lot of money in the ER. Their needs to be a 24 hour clinic like many other countries have. Of course doctors don't want to work at these times so they get pained more so everyone is happy.
I have met and talked to a lot of doctors in Japan. Most of them are very friendly and smart, They usually speak good English too, However a lot of Okinawan doctors speak bad english. Most of the doctors I have talked too are nice people but their work is so busy they don't see the world outside of their jobs so some times they become very narrow minded.    However all in all I believe any doctor in any country is a good person but if they only care about money or only help some kinds of people they are not welcome for me.

What do you think about doctors?

I think that everybody wants to listen to everybody's heart. I think hospitals are similar to religion.
